Gavin Sterritt has been released from his Bellator contract after he pulled out of his scheduled welterweight bout against Brennan Ward at next week’s Bellator 140.
The news of Sterritt pulling out of the fight and being released by Bellator was reported by MMA Junkie on Friday afternoon.
According to the report, Sterritt cited multiple reasons for pulling out of the fight including his belief that Bellator would prevent Quinton “Rampage” Jackson from being in his corner.
A Bellator representative released a statement on the Sterritt situation to MMA Junkie.
“Bellator MMA has informed Mr. Sterritt multiple times that Mr. Jackson can corner him at Bellator 140 on July 17, 2015, and that we expect Mr. Jackson to act in a sportsmanlike and professional manner just as we expect from all Bellator MMA athletes and their chosen corners,” the statement said. “Bellator has consistently tried in vain to resolve Mr. Sterritt’s alleged issues,” the rep said. “Any outstanding payments due are on the way to him, along with his release letter.”
At this time, it’s unknown if Brennan Ward will remain on next week’s Bellator 140 card.
