A featherweight bout has been added to CES MMA 30 in August as former Bellator tournament semifinalist Matt Bessette will meet Lenny Wheeler on the main card.
The fight booking was announced by CES MMA on Friday.
CES MMA 30 will come from the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island on August 14 and will be headlined by a rematch as Julian Lane defends the lightweight title against Luis Felix.
Bessette (15-6) has won back to back fights and is coming off a knockout win at CES MMA 29 against Khama Worthy. Both of his recent wins have come by TKO/KO and he is planning to him his third straight fight by stoppage.
“I want to be as active as possible, and the day after I fought for CES, I spoke with (CES MMA matchmaker) Pat Sullivan about getting on the August card,” Bessette said. “This fight may get out of the first round, but there’s no chance it gets out of the second round. There’s going to be a lot of good shots from both of us. But I’m not going to be the one to go down.”
Wheeler (8-3, 1NC) has also won his last two fights by stoppage and both wins came in the first round by TKO in under one minute combined. All of his victories have come by stoppage and this will be his CES MMA debut.
“Matt Bessette is a tough guy who has a lot of tools. He has fought some tough guys, but he hasn’t fought anyone like me,” says Wheeler. “I’m looking forward to challenging myself against Matt and giving the fans a hell of a show.”
