The twelfth and final episode of The Ultimate Fighter 21 premiered on Wednesday night on Fox Sports 1 and started with Glenn Robinson giving his team a speech about finishing out this season strong.
Robinson informs the team that Vicente Luque will be representing the Blackzilians in the final fight, which will decide which team will win the competition. Back at the fighters house, Dan Lambert ask Hayder Hassan who should fight next and he lets them know he wants to fight. The team decides that Hassan will be fighting for them and this will be his third fight in sixteen days.
The next day, the official weigh-ins for the final fight takes place at the American Top Team gym and Luque and Hassan weigh-in. Both fighters would make weight and the fight is now official for the next day at the American Top Team gym.
At the beginning of the fight, both fighters come out throwing big punches. Luque began to land the crisper strikes and did a good job of mixing up his punches and kicks. With just under two minutes left in the opening round, Luque scored a takedown. Hassan worked his way to his feet against the fence and Luque would get on the back of Hassan. He would be unable to do anything and Hassan would get the fight back to the center of the cage. The would continue to battle until the end of the round with Luque taking the opening round.
They continued their striking battle in the second round and Hassan was able to land his punches while Luque wanted several leg kicks. As the round went on, Hassan was landing the better strikes. As the round was coming to a conclusion, Luque looked for a takedown against the fence, but Hassan was able to stop the takedown. Following the conclusion of the round, the referee informed both fighters there would be a third and final round.
In the final round, Hassan opened up with a combination and Luque attempted to get the fight to the ground. Hassan would stop the attempt and the fight moved back to the center of the cage. Luque would land a short knee, but Hassan continued to come forward. Both fighter would land various strikes and Luque would score a takedown with just over 90 seconds left in the fight. Once against, Hassan would get up. With under a minute to go, both fighters were giving everything they had and Luque attempted a takedown. However, Hassan would stop the attempt and the judges will decide the winner of the fight.
It would it end up being a split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) and Hassan would scored the victory. With the win by Hassan, the American Top Team wins the competition and UFC President Dana White gets on a video chat with Lambert and Robinson to see who will be representing their team at the live finale on Sunday in Las Vegas. Robinson says that Kamarudeen Usman will represent their team and Lambert says they are going with Hassan.
