Tim Elliott became the Titan FC flyweight champion this past Saturday when he defeated Iliarde Santos by unanimous decision and he has his sights set on becoming a two-division champion in Titan FC.
During an interview that will be part of tomorrow’s The MMA Report Live, Elliott (11-6-1) explained that he wants to go up to the bantamweight division and face Brett Johns for the vacant title.
“Honestly, I think I am going to go up to 135 pounds and beat the guy who beat Anthony Gutierrez,” Elliott told The MMA Report. “I can’t remember his name. He beat my teammate. Making 125 is tough. I’m a big 125’er. So they are really not paying me enough money to stay at 125. I think I am going to go up to 135 and try to get that strap as well.”
With Elliott wanting to go up to the bantamweight division, has he informed Titan FC of this decision? Actually, he has not talked to them about it.
“I have with my team a little bit. They are on board with it and I did not sign a multi-fight deal with Titan or anything,” he explained. “Obviously, I am going to stick with them for awhile. They got me the title fight I wanted and they are treating me right. I definitely want to fight for them again. I just don’t know about sitting around at 125. I do not know if it’s worth it financially for me.”
“I feel curtain that if I talk to the Titan promoters that this is a fight they will accept and let me have,” Elliott continued. “Although the guy did not make weight for this title fight, he had the belt before and they stripped him of the belt when he did not make weight because that was a title fight. Now it’s open. I do not see anyone else that will put on a better show for them or a name of a better guy to put in there. They know I am going to go in there and fight hard no matter what. I think I would do better at 135. I struggle hard to make 125 pounds flat. At 135 and the extra ten pounds, I can do a lot about that.”
