When Brandon Girtz steps into the Bellator cage on August 28th, it will be without a doubt the biggest fight of his career. He will be taking on Melvin Guillard in the main event of Bellator 141.
“I’ve been asking for a big fight for a long time,” Girtz told The MMA Report. “I know what I’m capable of, my team knows what I’m capable of…and everybody’s going to see why they put me in the main event.”
When previously asked about his opponent, he has referred to Guillard as a one-trick pony.
“The reason I think he’s a one trick pony is he’s always looking for that one shot, he explained. “I’m an all-around fighter…I do it all.”
Girtz is looking to string together a couple of wins in the Bellator lightweight division in hopes of climbing the ranks towards a title shot. He already has an idea as to how the fight with Guillard may play out.
“Pressuring Melvin the whole time, coming forward, throwing bombs at him and I’m going to put him on his back,” he said. “I’m not sure exactly how it’s going to go but I’m pretty sure his back will be on the mat, if that’s me putting him out or if that’s me taking his arm off.”
