Patricio Pitbull vs. Daniel Straus III headlines Bellator 145; Will Brooks vs. Marcin Held set as co-main event

The fourth “tent pole” event for Bellator in 2015 will take place on Friday, November 6 in St. Louis and will be headlined by Patricio “Pitbull” Freire defending the featherweight title against former champion Daniel Straus.

Along with the featherweight title fight, the co-main event will also be a title fight as lightweight champion Will Brooks will defend the 155 pound title against season ten tournament winner Marcin Held.

The fight bookings were initially reported by MMA Fighting on Thursday evening and the event will be called “Bellator 145: Vengeance.”

Pitbull (24-2) is coming off a successful title defense in June against Daniel Weichel and he already holds two victories over Straus. He initially defeated Straus back in 2011 by unanimous decision and he submitted him in January at Bellator 132. Straus (24-6) is coming off a submission win at Bellator 138 against Henry Corrales. He is 2-2 in his last four fights and this will be his fourth title fight in Bellator.

Brooks (16-1) has won seven fights in a row and is coming off a successful title defense against Dave Jansen. During his winning streak, five of the wins have come by decision and two of them have come against Michael Chandler. Held (21-3) secured this title shot by winning the season ten lightweight tournament with wins against Rodrigo Cavalheiro, Derek Anderson, and Patricky Pitbull. He is currently on a six fight winning streak and is coming off a submission win against Alexander Sarnavskiy.

Bellator 145: Vengeance will come from the Scottrade Center and ticket information is expected to be announced shortly.

  1. This card is gonna go up against NBA on ESPN and College Football. Also a lot of popular shows are on Friday nights. Belfort vs Hendo will only go up against College Football. Bellator also goes up against Showtime boxing, but that’s not a big fight.

    Anyway great fights announced for UFC and Bellator. Weidman vs Rockhold is a great back up plan if Aldo vs McGregor doesn’t happen. And on the next tent pole Chandler and Lashley are gonna be on the card.

    Who would you matchup against with Chandler and Lashley? I would do Chandler vs Jansen and Lashley vs Johnson Jr or Gormley. But I think they will rebook Lashley vs Thompson II.

    1. From a television perspective, I would rather go up against the NBA on ESPN and Friday night college football, as opposed to college football on a Saturday night. Go look at the schedule that night, there will be some big games that night.

      In terms of Chandler, want to see what happens in two weeks. I think there is a good chance he faces a winner from that card. In terms of Lashley, tough to say. Many directions they could go. All the fighters you mentioned, plus Kongo.

      1. I agree that there are bigger college football games Saturday night than Friday night. But they’re some very popular shows that does huge ratings on Friday nights. Also movies come out to theaters and a lot of ppl go out on the weekends esp Friday nights.

        I really hope they don’t re-book Lashley vs Thompson II. But I have a feeling they will. I really want them to do Chandler vs Guillard or Chandler vs Jansen.

        1. In terms of College Football, Bellator will only go up against Temple @ SMU on ESPN 2 that night. In terms of UFC, they will have MAJOR competition for 18-49 male viewer with all of the college football games. There are HUGE games that day. Just go look at the schedule and you know what I mean.

          Remember, when looking at viewership numbers for show, the biggest stat to look at is demographic. MMA promotions are looking for the 18-49 Male demographic.

          Btw do you know why UFC chose not to go to AT&T Stadium? Is it bc they were afraid they couldn’t sell it out?

          I didn’t see Dos Anjos vs Cerrone announced untill after I asked those true or false ?’s. If I did I would’ve said true or false Cerrone will be the last new UFC champ of 2015. Btw I don’t think Mcgregor beats Aldo if Aldo is healthy. If he’s not I think he still has a chance to retain his title.

        3. As many people have already said, UFC used AT&T Stadium to get more money out of MGM Resorts.

  2. Can you believe that Santos vs Teixeira isn’t on the main card of Bellator 143? I wonder what is gonna be the last fight announced for the main card. Spartan vs Teixeria looks like it’s gonna be on the prelims as well. And Steve Garcia vs Jr vs Eduardo Bustillios.

    And they’ll be 9 fights for the Bellator and Glory card. 5 kickboxing fights. Maybe they’ll add reserve fights for Light Heavy tourney soon.

  3. Anderson Silva got off easy big time IMO. They’ve never done 1 yr suspension from the fighters last fight I don’t think. NC we knew would happen. 200k win bonus taken bc it changed to a NC. Then 180k fine. That’s not a big deal for a guy like Silva. If his hearing happened a month later, he would get hammered by NAC.

    1. Suspensions are ALWAYS retroactive to the date of the fight that caused the suspension. Suspension would have been the same, because fight took place under the new rules. Also, those penalties will not go into effect for likely another 60 days.

  4. Any word on when or if Paul Sass will return to Bellator? Is he still under contract with them? Also do you know how many fights Patricio Pitbull has left with BMMA?

    1. As far as I know, Paul Sass is still under contract with Bellator. Fighters under contracts from previous regime, those contracts were more based on dates, not fights.

      1. Are you serious David Rickels again? WTF are they thinking. Chandler KO’d him in less than a min. Wow I hate these easy fights for their top guys.

        1. I don’t agree with the Rickels booking. Would rather see him against say Guillard (if he wins against Girtz). In terms of Lashley, the Thompson fight makes the most sense.

        2. Chandler vs Guillard is the fight fans wanna see. That and Chandler vs Thomson would be amazing fights.

  6. They’re gonna re-book Lashley vs Thompson II for a 3 time most likely. I really hope not tho.

  7. Rama has 1 more fight left on his WSOF contract, correct? So lets say he wins and then becomes a free agent. Then Bellator signs him and they make Minakov vs Rama for the title? I bet that fight would interest Minkaov. Or they sign Cody East and give him the title shot?

  8. What’s up with Sornovsky, Zayats, and Bellator? Do you know when they will fight for them again?

    1. And Kongo vs Ivanov. Ivanov vs Thompson. Lashley vs Ivanov. So many great matchups they could’ve done. I think if he was still with Bellator he might have been their champ. But the reality is he’s not with them anymore, he’s now WSOF champ.

      1. Have to remember, Ivanov had his opportunity for a title shot and was defeated by Alexander Volkov.

  10. Do you think they will make Chandler vs Guillard and Chandler vs Thomson for his last 2 fight on his contract after the Rickels rematch? I doubt it.

    Yes, Ivanov lost to Volkov , but that was his only career loss. And I think he’s better than most of Bellator’s heavyweights and definitely the best heavyweight in WSOF.

    They also got rid of Rafael Silva, JCN, Clienton Duarte, Zarmoskis, etc. Plus they keep guys like Brian Rogers, Kendall Grove, Rudy Bears, Tokoro, Josh Burns, etc. They sign a few cans or guys on losing streaks. I feel like Coker/ Chou aren’t the ones running things in Bellator. I think it’s the ppl at Spike/ Viacom. When they were running Strikeforce with Bob Cook, they had an amazing roster. And they like never released anybody.

    I hope another major MMA organization comes so there’s some/ more competition. Maybe if one folds another will enter.

    I keep saying these things bc I’m waiting for change in MMA. We might see some big changes in the next couple of yrs.

    1. Tough to say at this point based on what happens with Guillard and Thomson over the next six months.

  11. According to Wiki there’s gonna be 10 fights on the Bellator/ Glory Dynamite main card. 5 from Bellator and 5 from the Glory portion. If that’s the case it might be 4 hrs or even longer. Holy shit!
