Following a thumb injury to UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, UFC 193 in November has a new main event as Ronda Rousey will defend the UFC women’s bantamweight title against Holly Holm.
The new main event was announced by UFC President Dana White on ESPN tonight.
“Ronda Rousey was huge for us in Brazil,” White said on ESPN. “She was well received there and it was just a phenomenal event. It did very well on Pay-Per-View here in the United States, and she’s obviously a huge superstar for us. Australia’s an important market for us, so we’re gonna bring her out there in our first real big stadium show, and we know she’ll break the record out there.
Rousey and Holm were initially scheduled to meet in the main event of UFC 195 on January 2 in Las Vegas and a new main event for that fight card should be announced in the coming weeks by the UFC. In terms of Lawler, a timetable has not been announced on when he will be able to return and defend the UFC welterweight title against Carlos Condit.
