While a venue and a date for the next Invicta FC card has not been determined, the main event of the card is set as strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza will defend her title against Alexa Grasso and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino will be on the card in a catchweight bout of 140 pounds.
Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced the fight bookings during the Invicta FC 14 Post Fight Press Conference.
“Right now, we are working on our November date,” Knapp said when asked if there would be a show in December. “The only reason we are not announcing it tonight is because we have not secured the location.”
“It’s never good to announce something without having everything in place,” she continued. “I will tell you this. Livia and Alexa will headline that card. Cris Cyborg will make her first drop in weight at 140. That is in the plans for the next card.”
Souza won the Invicta FC title in April when she submitted Katja Kankaanpaa to claim the vacant title. Seven of her eight wins have come by submission and five of those victories have come in the first round. Grasso made her Invicta FC debut last year and has gone 3-0 in the promotion. She was scheduled to challenged Souza last night at Invicta FC 14, but she had to pull out of the card with an injury.
Justino is coming off a successful Invicta FC featherweight title defense against Faith Van Duin in July and since that victory, the mixed martial arts community has discussed whether a fight between her and Ronda Rousey will ever take place. With Justino planning to take a fight at 140 pounds later this year, we could be close to seeing the biggest women’s fight in mixed martial arts history in 2016.
