A title and Bellator contract will be on the line in the co-main event of Shamrock FC: FUEL tonight in St. Louis as Rebecca Ruth will meet Alice Yauger for the promotions women’s flyweight title.
Ruth (4-1) enters this title fight with wins in her last two fights and is coming off a TKO win against Taylor Turner in July. In fact, all of her wins have come by TKO and three of those wins have come in the first round.
She will look for her third win in a row when she meets Yauger tonight and she has a good idea of what to expect from her opponent.
“From what I have seen, Alice is a great striker,” Ruth told The MMA Report. “She comes from a boxing background and she looks like an all-around athlete so I am definitely training for everything. I think she could mix it up. She could go all strikes or she could throw in some takedowns as well. She is definitely strong, and definitely in shape. I am training for everything. I look for her to have some heavy hands as well.”
While Ruth is young in her professional mixed martial arts career, has she faced someone that has similar abilities as Yauger?
“She comes from more of a stand up background from what I can tell,” she explained. “Where as it seems like a lot of the girls that I have fought, want to go to the ground. They want to do takedowns. Shoot in and they want to go down. Alice, I think will come from more of a stand up background and I do not know if I have fought anybody that is going to be quite like her.”
There is a lot on the line tonight for both of these fighters. A contract with a promotion like Bellator could be a career changing moment for them, but Ruth is only worried about the task at hand and will worry about a potential fight in Bellator at a later time.
“I definitely take it one fight at a time. I have to get through this fight before I can concentrate on a Bellator fight. The 125 [pound] is great and I have fought at 115 [pounds] before. I know that I have to put on a lot of muscle. I think she is going to be very strong. Working on a lot of muscles. Getting that put on and making weight. Right now, just worrying about one fight at a time. I have to be confident in what I do. I know I am training my butt off every day. Thinking about it every second. This is a huge fight for me. I am definitely going in with confidence.”
Shamrock FC: FUEL will come from the River City Casino in St. Louis, Missouri tonight and the event will be available on the Shamrock FC website for a price of $12.99.
