The main event of March’s Unified MMA 26 card in Edmonton has changed following Parwez Ghulam puling out of the event due to an injury and the fight card will now be headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Tim Hague and Tanner Boser.
The change in the main event of Unified MMA 26 was announced by the promotion on Saturday.
Unified MMA 26 will come from the Mirage Banquet Hall in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on March 4th and the winner of the main event will secure a title shot against current heavyweight champion Tony Lopez at Unified MMA 27 in May.
Matt Spisak (9-5) was scheduled to fight Ghulam for the vacant Unified MMA featherweight title and he will remain on the Unified MMA 26 card as his new opponent will be Noah Ali. Spisak is currently on a five fight winning streak and his last two wins have come by submission.
“This is a great opponent,” Spisak said. “He’s coming off a fight with a very tough fighter, who he went three rounds with. He’s going to bring it. He’s going to be prepared, he’s got skills but, most importantly, I know he’s going to bring it. I just know that I’m going to win. If the submission is there, I’m going to take it. But I’m also looking for the knockout too. I’m ready to go three hard rounds, but the scorecards won’t be necessary.”
Ali (6-3) enters Unified MMA 26 following a decision lost to Lyndon Whitlock at School of Hard Knocks 47 in November and he has dropped two of his last three fights. Four of his six wins have come by submission and three of those victories have come by guillotine choke.
“Every fight is the biggest fight of my career, and this is definitely no different,” says Ali. “Matt is strong, powerful, he has great grappling — I’m looking forward to a great fight. To be honest, I can beat him anywhere. I’m just going to go out there and do my thing. I’m a more dangerous striker and I think my grappling is better too. I’ll be the underdog, but the crowd will be silent after I win.”
