The UFC will be returning to Brazil on May 14 for UFC Fight Night 88 and the event will be headlined by a middleweight bout as former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort meets former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
The fight announcement was made by the UFC on Tuesday evening.
Souza (22-4, 1NC) recently has an eight fight winning streak snapped when he lost to Yoel Romero by split decision at UFC 194. However, USADA recently informed the UFC and Romero that he is facing a potential violation due to a drug test and it appears likely that the fight between Souza and Romero will be overturned to a no-contest.
Belfort (25-11) is coming off a knockout win at UFC Fight Night 77 in November as he defeated Dan Henderson in the first round. He has won four of his last five fights and his last four fights have ended in the first round.
UFC Fight Night 88: Jacare vs. Belfort will air on FS1 in the United States and the venue for this event is expected to be announced shortly by the UFC.
