ONE Championship will be returning to Yangon, Myanmar on March 18 for ONE Championship 40: Union of Warriors and the fight card will be headlined by Aung La N Sang fighting in his home country against Mohamed Ali.
The fight booking was announced by ONE Championship on Tuesday in a press release and the promotion also announced the fight card will feature former flyweight champion Adriano Moraes returning to the ONE Championship cage to meet Eugene Toquero.
“Last year, as part of our growth plan to bring opportunities to countries with a rich history in martial arts, we entered Myanmar for the first time in June, bringing our signature brand of world-class MMA to fans here in Yangon with the support of Z Corp, Skynet, the Lethwei Federation, and the Ministry of Sports,” ONE Championship CEO Victor Cui said in the press release. “This time, we intend to play off our success and establish yet another amazing night of MMA action.”
Sang (16-9, 1NC) made his ONE Championship debut in 2014 and defeated Mahmoud Salama by knockout in 67 seconds. This will be his first fight since winning his promotional debut and he is 4-1, 1NC in his last six fights. Ali (10-7) also made his ONE Championship debut in 2014 and he was defeated by Jake Butler at ONE Championship 18. Since that defeat, he took a fight outside of the promotion and defeated Mohamed Abdel Azim by TKO in March of last year.
Moraes (13-2) lost the ONE Championship flyweight title in November when he lost a split decision against Kairat Akhmetov. The defeat snapped a four fight winning streak and both of his career losses have come by split decision. Toquero (8-2) has won three of his five fights in ONE Championship and he is coming off a win against Li Wei Bin at ONE Championship 35. His win over Bin came by TKO at the end of the second round and two of his three wins in the promotion have come by stoppage.
