Brandon Girtz has become one of the top title contenders in the Bellator lightweight division over the past couple of months with victories over Melvin Guillard and Derek Campos. A case could be made for Girtz to be next for a title shot, but Girtz announced on his Facebook page today that he has suffered a torn ACL.
It is with great sadness to report I have re-torn my ACL. I’m honestly in shock. At first I even questioned my faith and why this happen to me again. Everything was going so well, and I could finally see all my dedication coming to fruition. I’m not exactly sure where my journey goes from here but one thing is Certain, I will be a stronger better man from it! My faith was rattled but not lost!
Love & Peace
With Girtz out of action for an undisclosed amount of time due to this injury, it’s not clear who will be next for current Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks. It appeared for some time that Bellator may book Josh Thomson vs. Michael Chandler in a number one contender fight but with Girtz out due to this injury, it would seem that a Brooks vs. Thomson fight would seem likely.
