Undefeated lightweight Grant Dawson is coming off his first career TKO/KO victory at Victory Fighting Championship 47 as he defeated Bryce Logan in the second round and he will return to UFC Fight Pass on March 4th as he will be facing veteran Robert Washington at Titan FC 37.
Dawson (8-0) will be making his Titan FC debut against Washington and he enters this fight following what he calls the best performance of his career as he was able to show he is much more than a grappler.
“That was by far my best performance so far,” Dawson told The MMA Report. “I am just constantly getting better. Every single day I think I get better and I really got to show it in that fight. I have been known as a wrestler or a grappling fighter and I just feel like finally getting that TKO. Showing my stand up. Showing myself as a complete and all around fighter.”
Prior to his fight at Victory Fighting Championship 47, all of Dawson’s wins came by submission and six of those victories came by rear-naked choke. Heading into his fight against Logan, was his mindset to prove to everyone that he is much more than a submission fighter?
“I do not care what people think,” he explained. “If somebody comes into a fight and says ‘ok, all I have to worry about is his submissions.’ That just makes it easier for me because people don’t realize what I bring to the table then. Going into this fight, I bet Bryce Logan thought all this guy can do is submit me so that is all I am going to work on, my submission defense. Well, look where that got him and I like Bryce. I got all sort of weapons all over the game and I have just chosen not to show them yet.”
At Titan FC 37, Dawson will meet a veteran in the sport. Washington will be stepping into the cage for the 31st time and it will be the first fight for Washington since losing to Zak Bucia in Shamrock FC. When it comes to his opponents abilities, Dawson knows the type of fighter that he is facing and believes there is nothing Washington does that worries him.
“He is explosive, stocky, looks strong and has decent wrestling,” Dawson stated. “That’s for sure, but there is nothing he does that I am too worried about. I train with one of the best teams in the world and I get those looks every single day. We have short, stocky, explosive guys whose games are better. There is nothing that worries me. We are going to come prepared. We are going to come in shape. We are going to come ready to fight so I hope he is.”
While Dawson states that nothing Washington does worries him, he knows he is facing a tough opponent and he plans to walk away from this fight with another stoppage victory.
“I do not believe in limiting myself with saying how I am going to do it, but it will be a finish. I want to go from bell to bell as hard as I can to break him and get the finish.”
