An undisclosed injury has forced Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to pull out of UFC on FOX 19 next month and stepping up to replace Rua against Rashad Evans will be former title challenger Glover Teixeira.
The fight change was announced by the UFC on Wednesday and the promotion also revealed that a welterweight bout between Omari Akhmedov and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos has been added to the upcoming fight card.
UFC on FOX 19 will come from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida on April 16 and will be headlined by a lightweight bout as Khabib Nurmagomedov returns from injury to meet Ultimate Fighter winner Tony Ferguson.
Teixeira (24-4) has won his last two fights and is coming off a TKO win in November against Patrick Cummins. He is 7-2 in the UFC and six of those wins have come by stoppage. Evans (19-4, 1NC) returned to the UFC last year after being away for nearly two years and lost a decision against Ryan Bader. The victory snapped a two fight winning streak and he is 2-3 in his last five fights.
