Bellator lightweight veteran Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will be headlining Bellator 152 in three weeks when he has a rematch with Derek Campos. The first meeting between the 155 pound fighters came in 2014 at Bellator 117 and Pitbull won that fight by stoppage in the second round.
Shortly after Bellator 149 in February, Bellator announced that Pitbull would be fighting Campos at Bellator 152 on April 16 in Italy. This came after it was announced on a Bellator broadcast that Pitbull would be facing undefeated lightweight Brent Primus.
So why did the fight with Pitbull and Primus get scratched? Pitbull explained what happened on Thursday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast,” and stated that his opponent for Bellator 152 changed following Campos victory at Bellator 149 against Melvin Guillard.
“They first sent me the contract to fight Primus,” Pitbull said through a translator. “Which I signed as soon as I got it and I do not know what happened. But after the Melvin and Derek fight, they sent me another email telling me that my opponent had changed. The bout agreement to fight Derek Campos. No one knows why it was changed. Just liked when I got the contract to fight Primus, I signed it and sent it back.”
