Juliano Coutinho explains why he decided to drop 15 pounds heading into Friday’s WSOF 31

One of the fights on Friday’s WSOF 31 preliminary card will be a heavyweight bout as Juliano Coutinho will look for his second straight victory as he meets Justin Willis on the fight card coming from The Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Coutinho (7-2) enters this fight following a split decision win against Chaz Morgan at CES MMA 33 in March and this will be his second fight in the WSOF cage as he lost to Steve Mocco at WSOF 20 last year by TKO in the opening round.

During yesterday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast,” Coutinho was a guest on the show to preview his fight against Willis. Coutinho talked about fighting someone who has not been very active and explained why he decided to drop some weight.

“Those are the fighters you need to prepare the most,” Coutinho said on The MMA Report Podcast about facing Willis. “They are hungry. They want to prove themselves. I think out of all of my fights — I am in the best shape of my life right now. I am dropping some weight to be a little more agile. I don’t walk around that heavy but I lost about — since the last fight, lost probably around fifteen pounds. I am feeling really good. No injuries at all. I am taking this fight as I am fighting for the belt because he is a dangerous fighter. I take every single one of those fights like I am going to be fighting for my life. I know he is a tough opponent and I’m ready for it. If we were fighting five rounds, I would be more than ready too.”
