Brazilian lightweight Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will be stepping into the Bellator cage tonight for the 16th time and he will be looking to become a champion as he will meet Michael Chandler for the vacant lightweight title in the co-main event of Bellator 157: Dynamite 2.
Pitbull (16-7) enters this fight with back to back victories and is coming off a decision win against Kevin Souza at Bellator 152. This will be the second time he faces Chandler as he lost the first meeting by decision at Bellator 44 in the Season Four lightweight tournament final.
Since Pitbull made his debut in Bellator at Bellator 36 in 2011 against Rob McCullough, he has been known as a fighter who has the ability to perform a spectacular knockout at any moment. While some observers of mixed martial arts may describe Pitbull as a striking specialist, he wants you to know that he is looking for submissions along with knockouts anytime he steps into competition.
“I am ready to fight five round. I am not looking to knock him out in the first round,” Pitbull stated on the Bellator 157 Media Conference Call earlier this week. “The knockout is going to be a consequence of the fight. Doesn’t mater if it’s the first round or the last round and I don’t just look for knockouts, I look for submissions too.”
