Eddie Alvarez defends lightweight title in main event of UFC 205 against Conor McGregor

The main event of November’s UFC 205 is now official as lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will defend the 155 pound title against current featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

UFC President Dana White announced the fight booking on late Monday evening on ESPN.

UFC 205 will come from Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 12 and the promotion will be holding the kickoff press conference today in New York City at 6 p.m. ET.

Alvarez (28-4) won the UFC lightweight title in July when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos by TKO at UFC Fight Night 90 and he is 6-1 in his last seven fights. McGregor (20-3) is coming off a majority decision win against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in a welterweight bout and is 8-1 in the UFC.
