Dana White: Chael will not talk himself into title shot

Chael Sonnen announced last week that he would be moving up in weight to the light heavyweight division and would make his debut in the division against Forrest Griffin at UFC 155.

During his announcement of the fight with Griffin, Sonnen decided to call Jones a punk kid.

Jones ended up responded to the former middleweight title contender and told him to earn a title shot and not talk his way into it.

UFC President Dana White was a guest this morning on the “Dave and Mahoney” radio show in Las Vegas on X107.5 and White stated that Sonnen will not talk himself into a light heavyweight title shot.

“He is a long way away,” White said. “He is not coming off the Silva fight and talking his way into a 205 lb world title shot. He is going to have to beat couple of the best in the world. If he beats Forrest Griffin, we will shoot him right into the top five. Let him fight some of those guys there and see what happens.”

This news will probably bring a smile to the face of light heavyweight fighters that have been working their way up the rankings. White said after UFC on FOX 4 earlier this month that Lyoto Machida will be next in line for a title shot after Dan Henderson, who faces Jones next week.

White also talked about the possibility of a super fight between Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva on the Las Vegas radio show.

White said that St-Pierre is interested in the fight, but will need to defeat Carlos Condit before the possibility of having a super fight with Silva. White went on to say the fight would likely be a catch weight fight and could be at 178 lbs.
