World Series of Fighting 4 took place on Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California and Tyrone Spong improved to 2-0 in MMA with a decision victory over Angel DeAnda in the main event.
During the entire fight, Spong used leg kicks to attack the lead leg of DeAnda to control the fight. Every time that DeAnda came in to throw a combination of punches, Spong fired off a leg kick that forced him to back off.
In the second round, Spong landed a combination that knocked the mouth piece out of DeAnda’s mouth. However, the referee paused the fight to let DeAnda get his mouth piece back in and Spong was unable to potentially go in for the finish.
After the fighters battled for three rounds, the fight went to the judges scorecards with the scores being 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. Spong is now 2-0 in MMA and his next fight will be on October 12th for Glory kickboxing and he will likely return to the MMA arena in early 2014.
Moraes dominated Hempleman to win fifth straight
Marlon Moraes remained undefeated in the World Series of Fighting as he won his third fight inside the promotion as he defeated Brandon Hempleman by unanimous decision in the co-main event of tonight’s card.
Moraes (11-4-1) came close to finishing the fight in the first round as he opened up a cut near Hempleman’s right eye. However, Hempleman would be able to survive the ground and pound of Moraes and made it out of the round. Moraes continued to dominate the fight in the second round with Hempleman being unable to manage much offense.
In the final round, Moraes began to slow down and it was learned after the fight that he suffered a foot injury in the second round. Even though he slowed down in the final round, he continued to control the fight and all three judges scored the fight 30-27 for him. Moraes has now won five fights in a row and has cemented his spot as the top bantamweight fighter in the World Series of Fighting.
