Rising UFC featherweight Conor McGregor will be out of action for the next 10 months due to a ACL tear, MCL strain and posterior horn meniscal tear.
UFC President Dana White announced the news on Thursday night’s edition of “Fox Sports Live” on Fox Sports 1.
McGregor (14-2) suffered the injury during his unanimous decision victory over Max Holloway at last weekend’s UFC Fight Night 27 card in Boston.
During the UFC Fight Night 27 Post Fight Press Conference, McGregor said he heard a pop in his knee during the second round and the injury prevented him from getting a stoppage victory.
“I injured my knee halfway through the second,” McGregor said. “I just can’t get it out of my head, but looking back I should have just pulled my knee from my leg and hit him with it.”
He was informed of the extent of the injury on Thursday when he met with the UFC doctors. Surgery will be required and the UFC featherweight will likely return next summer.
