Ultimate Fighter 17 alum Zak Cummings made his UFC debut on the UFC Fight Night 27 preliminary card and scored his ninth career win by submission as he defeated Benny Alloway in the first round.
Alloway went for takedown early in the fight and ended up going for a guillotine choke. Cummings was able to escape and they clinched against the fence. Cummings took the fight to the ground and attempted to pass his position.
Alloway would work his way back to his feet and break away from Cummings. After a brief striking exchange, Cummings put Alloway against the fence and they clinched with Cummings landing short strikes.
Cummings would end up taking the fight to the ground with one minute left in the opening round and began to look for a submission. He would end up going for a d’arce choke submission and Alloway would tap out shortly after the submission was locked in.
Cummings (16-3) has now won three straight and six of his last seven fights. Alloway (13-5) has now dropped back to back fights in the UFC after winning his debut and this is his fourth career defeat by submission.
