The final preliminary bout of the UFC Fight Night 27 card was a middleweight bout as Dylan Andrews came from behind to defeat Papy Abedi in the third round.
Abedi opened the fight by throwing leg kicks and closing off the cage. He would eventually take the fight to the ground and had side control. Andrews would get back to his feet and went for a standing submission.
However, Abedi would escape the submission and take the fight back to the ground. He had top position and ended up going for a guillotine choke. Andrews got back to his feet and attempted to get the fight to the ground but Abedi stopped the attempt and he took the fight to the ground. Andrews would get back to his feet and score a takedown as the opening round came to a conclusion.
In the second round, Andrews started to land his right hand along with inside kicks. Abedi would land a right hand that took the fight to the ground. While looking for a guillotine choke, he landed several strikes including a knee to the body.
Andrews would be able to stop the submission attempts of Abedi and get back to his feet. As the round came to a conclusion, he landed a knee to the groin and the bout moved into the final round.
At the beginning of the final round, Andrews would land a right hand and they would clinch against the fence. After a lack of action, referee Herb Dean separated them. Upon the restart, Andrews landed a right hand that stunned Abedi and followed it up with an uppercut that dropped Abedi and led to the finish of the fight.
Andrews (18-5, 1NC) has now won his first two fights in the UFC and has won six straight fights overall. Abedi (9-3) has dropped three of his four fights in the UFC and may be released following this defeat.
