In the second women’s bantamweight bout of UFC Fight Night 31, Alexis Davis used effective striking to defeat former UFC title challenger Liz Carmouche by unanimous decision.
The opening round feature both fighters exchanging leg kicks with the kicks from Davis being more effective. Carmouche circled around the cage looking to find an angle for a strike and had trouble landing a significant strike. As the round came to an end, Davis started to push the pace and likely took the opening round on the scorecards.
The pace picked up in the second round and Carmouche opened up a cut on the left side of Davis face. They started to have more exchanges in close range and Carmouche targeted the left eye of Davis.
As the second round moved on, Carmouche had trouble moving around due to the leg kicks Davis landed in the first round. Davis took the fight to the ground and began to look for a submission. Carmouche defended the submissions and the fight moved into the third round with Carmouche likely down two rounds.
At the start of the third round, Davis closed the distance and clinched with Carmouche against the fence. She would not be able to get the fight to the ground and referee Gary Copeland separated the fighters.
They ended up back against the fence with Carmouche having her back against the cage. She attempted to get the fight to the ground, but that was unsuccessful and Davis moved the fight back to the center of the cage. They would exchange strikes until the final bell and Davis won by unanimous decision.
Davis (15-5) is now on a four fight winning streak and is 2-0 in the UFC. Both of her wins have come by decision in the UFC and puts herself “in the mix” in the bantamweight division. Carmouche (9-4) is now 1-2 in the UFC with her other defeat coming against current UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
