The first event of 2014 for the World Series of Fighting will take place on January 18th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The event was announced by the World Series of Fighting on Tuesday and tickets will go on sale this Friday.
The fight card will be headlined by a title fight as Justin Gaethje (10-0) will meet Gesias Cavalcante (18-7-1) for the inaugural lightweight title. Also, Anthony Johnson (15-4) meets Mike Kyle (20-9-1) in a light heavyweight bout and Cody Bollinger (14-2) will make his WSOF debut against Tyson Nam (12-5).
Gaethje made his professional debut in 2011 and won his first seven fights before making hi WSOF debut in March. His debut in the organization came against Cavalcante at WSOF 2 and won by doctor stoppage at the 2:27 mark of the opening round. Since that win, he has back to back wins by TKO with the most recent win coming in October against Dan Lauzon at WSOF 6.
Cavalcante has been fighting since 2005 and made his WSOF at the inaugural event last year. He has won two of his three fights in the organziation and is coming off a third round victory over former UFC fighter Tyson Griffin at WSOF 4 in August. It was his sixth career win by knockout and 14 of his 18 wins have come by stoppage.
