UFC Fight Night 35 took place on Wednesday night in Georgia and Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, Derek Brunson, and Cole Miller were awarded the fight night bonuses.
The bonuses were announced by UFC President Dana White at the post fight press conference and each fighter will receive a bonus of $50,000.
Rockhold won the knockout of the night bonus for his first round victory against Costas Philippou in the main event of the fight card. Rockhold landed a body kick that ended the fight and all nine of his stoppage victories have come in the first round.
Following the fight, Rockhold stated that he would like to work his way back to a rematch against Vitor Belfort and would like that fight to take place in the United States. He went to tell Jon Anik in his post fight interview that he is also interested in a matchup with Michael Bisping.
The fight of night went to Romero and Brunson for their middleweight bout that was part of the main card on Fox Sports 1. Brunson was able to take control of the fight in the opening ten minutes, but Romero was able to come back in the third round and score a TKO victory.
It was Romero’s second straight victory to come by TKO/KO in the third round and he becomes the first fighter in UFC history to win back to back fights by TKO/KO in the third round. Following the event, White told the attending media that Brunson was taken to the hospital and may have a broken jaw.
Miller won the submission of the night bonus for his second round victory over Sam Sicilia in the opening bout of the main card. Miller was able to use his reach in the opening round and was able to circle away from the power hand of Sicilia. He would end up dropping Sicilia with a punch and ended the fight on the ground with a rear-naked choke.
The victory marked the tenth UFC win for Miller and he has won six fight night bonuses. Four of those bonuses have been for the submission of the night and his last submission of the night bonus came back in 2010 when he submitted Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night 22.
