The positive drug test was reported on Saturday evening by Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com as he was informed of the failed drug test by Nevada Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar.

Following Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night 44 in San Antonio, UFC Senior Director of Communications Dave Sholler released a statement on the most recent positive drug test of the now retired fighter and current Fox analyst.

“We were made aware that a second random test conducted earlier this month resulted in a positive test for additional banned substances,” the UFC statement said. “Chael will have the opportunity to appear in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission next month and through a statement released to the media tonight, he has pledged to cooperate. Our stance on the subject remains absolutely the same. We support the commission and we will continue to insure that all UFC competitors compete on an even playing field, free of performance enhancing drugs and banned substances.”

Sonnen will be on the next Nevada Commission meeting agenda on July 23rd and he will have the ability to discuss both of his recent positive drug test results with the commission.
