WSOF 17 took place on Saturday night at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and was headlined by Jake Shields submitting Brian Foster in the first round to secure a title shot against current welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares. 
Shields admitted after the fight that he did not get off to a good start, but he was able to get the fight to the ground and began to work for submissions.
He would end up getting in the mount position and appeared to be looking for an arm triangle choke. Foster would end up giving up his back and Shields would finish the fight with a rear-naked choke.
