Former Bellator heavyweight tournament finalist Blagoi Ivanov signs with WSOF

Bellator season ten heavyweight tournament finalist Blagoi Ivanov was recently released by by the promotion and he has a new fighting home as he has signed a multi-fight deal with the World Series of Fighting.

World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo announced the signing to MMA Junkie today.

Ivanov (11-1, 1NC) made his Bellator debut in 2011 and made it to the semifinals of the season five tournament. However, an injury would force him out of the tournament. After taking a fight outside of the promotion, he was stabbed in a bar and the injuries suffered were life threatening.

He would end up recovering from that incident and returned to Bellator in 2013 and won back to back fights by submission in the first round. Following those victories, he was entered into the season ten tournament and was defeated in the final by former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov.

He has not competed since losing to Volkov and his first fight in the World Series of Fighting has not been determined at this time.

  1. Why are these guys even in the MMA business if they’re gonna keep releasing good fighters? They sign old UFC rejects on losing streaks and releases their home grown fighters. Shit don’t make sense. I think Scott’s vision is to burn Bellator to the ground bc that’s what is gonna happen.. These ppl are so stupid. Dana is right the ppl running Bellator are dirty scumbags.. My ass they wanna put on fights fans wanna see. If that was the case they wouldn’t release Shamhalev/Vegh/ Valvacius/Ivanov/Aliev/Olyienk/Askren/Green/Tsarev/Shawn Jordan/Travis Browne/ Ellenberger/ Hall/, ect. Plus someone told me it was Bjork’s idea to get rid of the Straw Weight division. Some of these guys were cut before Scott came, but still these are good fighters that they cut. These ppl know nothing about MMA. Scott does, but whoever is in charge doesn’t. I say this all the time bc Bellator is running a fucked up business. I’m sorry Jason, I just want Bellator to succeed and have top fighters that put on big fights/ fans wanna see. Not run Circus MMA. Bellator could have been a threat to the UFC if they didn’t release over 300 fighters since their existence. Also who wouldn’t resign guys like Lombard/ Askren/ Alvarez when they had chances to. Wtv I’m done worrying about them. They ain’t gonna be around for much longer. Another big MMA promotion will come and be better than them.

    1. What if the guys I mentioned along with Dave Branch/ Steve Carl/ Wilson Reis were all still with Bellator do you think they could be a serious threat to the UFC? I think so. Askren/ Jake Ellenberger/Travis Browne/ Shawn Jordan/ Alvarez/ Dave Branch/Ivanov/Valvicius/Green/Tsarev/Shamhalaev/Hall/Vegh/Lombard/Steve Carl/ Reis/ If all these fighters were still with Bellator they could be a force. But they are not. I just wish they will be another Strikeforce/ Pride one day and I hope it happens soon. I guess new promotions will come when WSOF/Titan fold this yr.

  2. They also release a lot of undefeated fighters to. These guys know nothing about MMA. They should just sell it already.

      1. I do not agree with some of the releases. Look, it’s their company and if the new regime can not find success, they will not have jobs.

        1. Do you think if they can’t find success that it’s the end for Bellator? Like what I mean is do you think Viacom will sell it?

        2. Several factors involved in this. If there were to sell, unlikely UFC would be a buyer due to the anti-trust lawsuit that is looming

        3. What’s going on with that lawsuit? What’s the next step is it waiting to see if the court accepts it?

  3. Ppl are hating on Bellator 132 fights saying they’re out of shape guys getting their ass kicked. #Dleague. 8 outta the 10 fights were finishes what more do you want ppl? At least guys in Bellator finish fights and come to fight unlike the UFC.. I hate UFC fantards they are the worst fans in Sports.. Most of them. Some are cool.

  4. Bellator released so many really good Russians over the yrs. That hw Russian that UFC just signed Bellator cut yrs ago for no reason. He’s a big prospect and they release a lot of other great prospects too. Fuck Bellator they suck ass..

  7. Pro Elite isn’t dead right? Like if they wanted to get back in the MMA business they could? I heard that they were gonna buy Strikeforce, but instead they sold it to Zuffa.

  11. I wonder why Bellator releases guys with 1 or 2 losses on their record and undefeated fighters all the time. Maybe they don’t fit their vision.

    1. Network overnights always come out the next day. Cable ratings do not come out the next day

        2. Why is WSOF on NBC and Bellator not on CBS yet? Bellator got bigger names/ better fighters.

  16. Top 20 KO’s did an average of 713k viewers and 15 fantastic finishes did an average of 594k. As reported by MMA Payout January 12th. That’s pretty good for taped specials.
