The journey of Desmond Green over the last year has gone from Bellator featherweight tournament participant to becoming the Titan FC featherweight champion.
At this time last year, he was preparing to face Mike Richman in the season ten featherweight tournament in Bellator and now he is preparing to make his first Titan FC featherweight title defense as he is challenged by Kurt Holobaugh.
Green (14-3) entered Titan FC on Halloween night and scored a devastating knockout victory over former WEC champion Miguel Torres and became the Titan FC champion in December when he won a decision against Steven Siler in the main event of Titan FC 32.
When a fighter becomes a champion, some will say that they do not feel like they are the champion until they defend the title. Current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made this statement when she came to the UFC after being the Strikeforce champion. Where does Green stand on this?
“I think it’s a little bit of both depending on the circumstance,” Green said on The MMA Report Live. “Most times I would say you get the real respect when you defend the title a couple of times or at least once.”
At Titan FC 33, he will make his first time defense and will be looking for his third straight victory. Earlier this week, Holobaugh told TheMMAReport.com that he thought Green would win the vacant title due to his wrestling. In addition, he stated that Green does a good job of holding onto his opponent and shutting down their offense. When asked for a response, Green agreed with the breakdown given by Holobaugh.
“I think he is right,” Green said. “Once I get ahold of you, I will definitely take advantage of it. It’s cool. It’s a good thing to say. It’s nothing that is going to be able to help him out or anything or stop it. It’s good that he has that knowledge. We will see what he can do with it.”
Green has accomplished a lot in his young career in this sport. He has faced notable fighters like Rob Font, Fabricio Guerreiro, Mike Richman, Daniel Weichel, Torres, and Siler. Does “The Predator” think that Holobaugh will be his toughest opponent?
“It may be. I know that Kurt is a real tough guy,” Green said. “He has some high profile wins. I am definitely looking forward to it. I feel like I get better every fight so I am definitely going to be the best Desmond out there. I hope he brings everything he’s got.”
