Gunnar Nelson will have his first fight in the United States in July as he will meet John Hathaway in a welterweight bout at UFC 189.
The fight booking was announced by the UFC on Wednesday afternoon.
UFC 189 will come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be headlined by a title fight as Jose Aldo defends the featherweight title against Conor McGregor.
Nelson (13-1-1) made his UFC debut in 2012 and won four straight fights in the promotion. He suffered his first career defeat in his last fight as he lost a split decision to Rick Story in the main event of UFC Fight Night 53. Hathaway (17-2) will also enter this fight following a defeat as Dong Hyun Kim knocked him out at The Ultimate Fighter China Finale last year. The defeat snapped a three fight losing streak and he is 7-2 in the UFC.
