Bellator 136: Brooks vs. Jansen Pre-Fight Stats

Bellator will return tomorrow night as the promotion will be at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California and the event will be headlined by a title fight Will Brooks defends the Bellator lightweight title against Dave Jansen.Bellator136

The fight card will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT with the online preliminary card and the four fight main card will start at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Spike TV.

Along with the title fight, the main card on Spike TV will key bouts in the middleweight, lightweight, and heavyweight divisions which could see the winners of those fights securing title shots

Will Brooks (15-1) vs. Dave Jansen (20-2)
Brooks became the interim lightweight champion last year when he defeated Michael Chandler at Bellator 120 and defeated Chandler for a second time at Bellator 131 to become the unified champion. He is currently on a six fight winning streak and is 7-1 in Bellator.

  • He is tied with Andrey Koreshkov for the most wins in a calendar year in the Bellator cage (5).
  • Currently tied with Patricio Pitbull for the 3rd longest active winning streak in Bellator.
  • His TKO defeat over Chandler at Bellator 131 is the 4th latest stoppage in a Bellator title fight.

Jansen secured this title shot by winning the season seven tournament in 2013 with wins over Magomed Saadulaev, Ricardo Tirlono, and Marcin Held. His title fight was delayed due to an injury and he came back from that injury last year as he defeated Rick Hawn by decision.

  • Tied with Brooks for the 2nd most wins in Bellator lightweight division history.
  • He has won seven straight in Bellator and this is tied with Liam McGeary for the longest active winning streak in the promotion.
  • Three of his wins in Bellator have come by submission and this is tied with Eddie Alvarez and Alexander Sarnavskiy for the 2nd most submissions in Bellator lightweight history.

Joe Schilling (2-3) vs. Rafael Carvalho (10-1)
Schilling made a statement in his Bellator debut as he defeated Melvin Manhoef by knockout at Bellator 131. It was his first MMA fight since 2008 and he is coming off a decision win in Glory back in February.

  • All of his MMA fights have ended by stoppage.
  • 18-7 in kickboxing and eleven of those wins are by knockout.
  • All of his MMA defeats have come by submission.

Just like Schilling, Carvalho made his Bellator debut last year and scored a first round victory against Brian Rogers at Bellator 125. He has won his last two fights in the first round and has only gone to the decision once

  • Since dropping his pro debut, he has won ten in a row.
  • Nine of his ten wins have come by TKO/KO.
  • 2nd career fight to take place in the United States.

Marcin Held (20-3) vs. Alexander “Tiger” Sarnavskiy (30-2)
Held is currently on a five fight winning streak and won the season ten lightweight tournament last year. Two of his three wins in the tournament came by submission and defeated Patricky Pitbull in the final.

  • Tied with four other fighters for the 3rd most wins in Bellator history.
  • His five submission wins in Bellator is tied with Alexandre Bezerra for the most in Bellator history.
  • His two defeats in Bellator have come against Chandler and Jansen.

Sarnavskiy enters this fight on a five fight winning streak and four of those wins came outside Bellator. His most recent win came in November as he defeated Artak Nazaryan by knockout in the first round.

  • Tied with Saad Awad and David Rickels for the 4th most wins in Bellator lightweight history.
  • Three of his wins in Bellator have come by submission and this is tied with Alvarez and Jansen for 2nd most submission in Bellator lightweight competition.
  • 9-1 in his last ten fights and the only defeat came against Brooks.

Alexander Volkov (24-4) vs. Tony Johnson (8-2)
Volkov won the inaugural Bellator heavyweight title in 2012 and he has won five in a row since losing the title to Vitaly Minakov. His last two wins have come outside of Bellator and he defeated Blagoi Ivanov to win the season ten heavyweight tournament.

  • He is one of three fighters in Bellator history to win a fight with one second left in a round (Jason Fischer and Quinton Jackson).
  • Tied with Ivanov for the 2nd most wins in Bellator heavyweight division history.
  • One of five fighters in Bellator history to win a tournament twice in the same weight class.

Johnson is returning to Bellator for the first time since 2011 and he is coming off a win in November against Robert Neal. He is 4-1 in his last five and two of those wins came by TKO.

  • Four wins by TKO/KO
  • Defeated current UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis in his Bellator debut.
  • Holds wins over Kenny Garner and Tim Sylvia.
