Urijah Faber unsure if his next fight will be at bantamweight or featherweight, wants a match that gets him excited

UFC Fight Night 66 was the 40th fight in the mixed martial arts career for “The California Kid” Urijah Faber and it marked the first time in his career that he was defeated in a non-title fight.

Faber (32-8) was defeated by former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar by decision in a featherweight bout and this was the first fight for Faber at featherweight since losing to Jose Aldo at WEC 48 in 2010.

His previous 13 fights came in the bantamweight division and the natural question following yesterday’s fight card is whether Faber will return to bantamweight or stay at featherweight. Faber was asked this question at the post fight press conference and he stated that he is not sure at this time what weight class his next fight will take place in.

“It’s kind of a weird time for me,” Faber said. “I feel like I have not change in adrenaline or emotion throughout this whole process. I do not know if it’s the time change or what but walking out to the cage, inside the cage, I was just relaxed the whole time. I am trying to find something to get me real excited. I am going to look for a match that is going to get me excited whether it’s 35 or 45. I am not sure yet. That was my 40th fight which is kind of a trip to think about because it seemed like yesterday that I started out in this sport. It’s been 12 years. I really enjoyed being to eat throughout camp so we will see. It’s pretty miserable getting down to 135. When I hit 145, I was thinking its usually 10 more pounds from here so we will see.”

With hearing what Faber said about the weight cut and knowing that he turned 36 this past Thursday, it would seem like that it’s more likely that Faber will stay at featherweight instead of going back down to bantamweight.
