The seventh episode of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4: Team Nogueira vs. Team Shogun premiered earlier this week on UFC Fight Pass and if you did not check the show, here is a recap of what you missed.
What Happened:
Team Shogun’s Bruno Korea advanced to the bantamweight semifinals by submitting Team Nog’s Leandro Higo in the first round, and the third lightweight quarterfinal between Team Shogun’s Joaquim Silva and Team Nog’s Erick Da Silva was announced.
The Fight:
In a significant upset, Bruno Korea (4-0) submitted Leandro Higo (13-2) towards the end of the first frame with a rear-naked choke.
It was a back-and-forth fight with each bantamweight having their moments on the feet, in the clinch and on the ground, but it was Korea who bested Higo in a scramble, quickly locked on the choke and earned the tap.
The victory puts Team Shogun at 5-0, and Korea joins his teammates, Dileno Lopes and Matheus Nicola in the bantamweight semifinals.
Fight Announcement:
With fight selection power still in his hands, Rua picked the next lightweight matchup. Next week, Team Shogun’s Joaquim Silva (7-0) will face Erick Da Silva (17-5).
Other Notes:
– Higo had a really difficult weight cut. He ended up making the weight, but it was real struggle for him throughout the episode. The coaches for Team Nogueira had to come to the house and help him make one last push to get the weight down.
– As far as official weigh-in went, Higo weighed in at 135.5 pounds, and Korea tipped the scale at 136.
– The ring card girl for the Higo/Korea fight was Isabela Amado. Amado is 27, from Colombia and is an international business manager.
– The two teams competed in the suspended cable challenge with a trip to the stratosphere roller-coaster on the line. The contest itself was essentially an endurance contest in which a lightweight and a bantamweight from each team were suspended above a pool, and the winner would be the pair that held on to each other the longest. After a little over 30 minutes, Team Shogun’s duo of Glaico Franca and Matheus Nicolau bested Team Nog’s Fernando Bruno and Bruno “Bulldog” Silva.
