An injury has forced Cody McKenzie off next week’s UFC 155 card and replacing McKenzie against Leonard Garcia will be Max Holloway.
UFC officials announced the change on Wednesday and the bout between Holloway and Garcia will take place on the preliminary card portion of the fight card.
Holloway (6-1) made his UFC debut at the beginning of this year when he was an injury replacement for Ricardo Lamas against Dustin Poirier at UFC 143. He was defeated by submission in the first round and has won back to back fights since suffering his first professional defeat.
He is coming off a TKO win at UFC 150 against TUF Alum Justin Lawrence, which he finished the fight in the second round with knees and punches to the body. It was only his second career victory by knockout and the first time since his second career professional fight.
Garcia (15-9-1) is currently on a three fight losing streak, with his last win coming against Nam Phan by split decision at the end of 2010. The win against Phan was a close split decision and many people felt that Phan did enough to win the fight.
During his run in the UFC/WEC, Garcia has been known for his fight night bonuses. He has won seven fight night bonuses, with six of the bonuses being for fight of the night.
UFC 155 takes place next Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Junior dos Santos defending the UFC heavyweight title against Cain Velasquez, which will be a rematch of their title fight from last year.
