Bantamweight Rob Font will look to improve to 3-0 in the UFC in two weeks as he will meet John Lineker on the preliminary card of UFC 198 in Brazil.
Font (12-1) is currently on an eleven fight winning streak and is coming off a stoppage victory against Joey Gomez at UFC Fight Night 81 in January. During Tuesday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast,” Font was a guest on the show to preview his upcoming fight and talked about being the taller fighter in the fight.
“Guys that have the reach advantage over a shorter opponent usually tend to pull out with their chins higher,” Font said. “I have fought a lot of tall guys. My [UFC] debut, I fought George Roop and we were planning on that. So I know exactly how to beat a taller guy. I just have to reverse the roll and never really make any mistakes. Guys that are taller usually there punches come out fast. They come back slower and pull out with their chins up high. Really leave their bodies open for body shots.”
“Lineker is great with body shots. Lineker is great with his timing with his right had over his jab,” he continued. “I just have to make sure I never really pull out tall for that left hook. Bring back my jab as quick as I throw it back out for the right hand. Every time he shoots to the body, I just have to counter with something big after he shoots for the body. I feel like that is going to be the main part with him. Just making sure I am real sharp and never really getting lazy with it. I know for him to let one of those big punches go, it’s real quick for him because he is so short and stocky. Besides that, I think it’s a really simple game plan and I just have to execute it. Control the distance with my reach, but more with my footwork.”
