Unified MMA heavyweight champion Tanner Boser has a new opponent for Unified MMA 28 on September 30 as Nick Rossborough has pulled out of the event due to injury and stepping up to challenge Boser for the heavyweight title will be Joe Yager.
The fight change was announced by Unified MMA officials on Monday.
Unified MMA 28 will come from The Royal Palace in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the fight card will also feature title fights in the featherweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Boser (9-2) claimed the heavyweight title at Unified MMA 27 as he defeated Tony Lopez by unanimous decision. He has won four of his last five fights and three of those four wins have come by stoppage.
“Rossborough would’ve been a great win to have on my record, so it sucks that he’s now injured,” said Boser. “However, I feel that Yager is an even tougher fight and has bigger world-ranking implications. This is a huge fight.”
Yager (11-4) has won six of his last seven fights and is coming off a decision victory in May against Tony Lopez. Eight of his eleven victories have come by decision and his last stoppage win came in 2013 against Levi Avera.
“Tanner is a really tough opponent who comes to fight every time. I’m the same way, and on Fight Night there are definitely going to be fireworks,” said Yager. “I’m looking forward to making a home with Unified MMA — but first I have to pick up my belt on September 30.”
