The final preliminary fight of Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman was a women’s bantamweight bout as Miesha Tate and Julie Kedzie had a fight of the year candidate.
Tate (13-3) showed the heart of a champion and defeated Kedzie by armbar in the third round.
Kedzie dominated the fight in the striking aspect and Tate worked her wrestling game through out the fight.
The fighters came out in the first round by brawling, but Tate looked to take the fight to the ground when Kedzie was winning that aspect of the fight. She took the first round with her effective striking, but Tate was able to go for a submission late in the round. She did not have enough time to work a submission and Kedzie made it to the bell.
The second round was all Tate as she took the fight to the ground and attempted a choke, which was close on two separate occasions. Somehow, Kedzie was able to escape the choke attempt by Tate and made it back to her corner.
At the start of the third round, Kedzie (16-10) landed a head kick and dropped Tate. It appeared that Kedzie was close to finishing the fight, but Tate was able to scramble and began to work her submission game.
Tate worked her way into a armbar submission and Kedzie was forced to tap at the 3:48 mark of the final round. With this win, Tate gets back into title contention and could face the winner of tonight’s main event.
