An injury has forced Thiago Alves to pull out of his fight against Matt Brown at UFC on FS1 in Boston and replacing Alves in the fight will be Mike Pyle.
UFC officials announced the change in opponent for Brown on Wednesday and the fight will remain on the main card.
UFC on FS1: Shogun vs. Sonnen takes place on August 17th from the TD Garden in Boston and will be headlined by former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua meeting Chael Sonnen in a five round light heavyweight bout.
Alves tweeted that the injury that caused him to pull out of this fight was a tear of his biceps tendon. “Unfortunately at my last sparring session past Thursday I had a full thickness tear of my biceps tendon on my left arm,” Alves tweeted. “Gotta fix it.”
Pyle (25-8-1) is currently on a four fight winning streak and is coming off a split decision victory over Rick Story at UFC 160 on Memorial Day Weekend. His previous three wins had come by TKO/KO in the first round, which included the knockout of the night bonus at UFC on FX 3 against Josh Neer.
Brown (17-11) is currently on a five fight winning streak and his last three wins have come by TKO/KO in the second round. His most recent win came at UFC on FOX 7 against Jordan Mein and the bout won the fight of the night bonus. It was the first time that Brown won a fight night bonus in his 15 career fights and it was his tenth career win by knockout.
