UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva was arrested on Thursday evening at his residence in Oakland Park, Florida after an incident at a jiu-jitsu school involving his wife.
He was initially charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and obstruction without violence.
On Friday morning, Silva appeared in a South Florida court room for a bond hearing. During the hearing, the judge, state attorney, and Silva’s attorney went through the entire police report.
After hearing both sides, the judge decided that there was not probably cause for the attempted murder charges that Silva was initially charged with and those charges have been changed to aggravated assault with a weapon.
When it came to the bond, the judge initially set a bond of $2,500,100, with $2 million of the bond being for the new charge of aggravated assault with a weapon.
However, the judge decided to hold Silva without bond due to the UFC fighter being a flight risk. The Florida State Attorney was concerned that Silva would fly back to his home country of Brazil, and he would not return to the United States for a trial.
Prior to this morning’s hearing, UFC President Dana White told TMZ Sports that Silva will never fight in the UFC again. TheMMAReport.com has reached out to the UFC for a comment on the charges that Silva is facing, and the organization has not commented at this time.
