Since defeating Mark Munoz in July, Chris Weidman has been on the sideline and has been looking for a title shot against current middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Silva’s management team has said recently that they are looking for big fights and mentioned a potential fight with Georges St-Pierre, but not Weidman.
At this point, Weidman has not taken a fight and feels that the UFC would like to see him go up against Silva. He does believe that he is the biggest challenge for Silva in the middleweight division and is hopeful that the fight will happen.
“I definitely think I’m the biggest challenge to him and I think him and his management know I’m the biggest challenge,” Weidman said. “I would expect him to take the challenge and try to beat that challenge.”
Weidman would like to get the opportunity to face Silva, but it’s likely he will have to take a fight before a potential bout with the champion. UFC President Dana White said yesterday that a super fight between Silva and St-Pierre is becoming more likely.
If Weidman is unable to get the fight with Silva next, he could be looking at a potential fight against the winner of the UFC 152 bout between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann.
