Chael Sonnen was one of the host last night on “UFC Tonight” and announced his plans to move up to the light heavyweight division.
Sonnen will meet Forrest Griffin on December 29th in Las Vegas and the former middleweight title contender took a shot at the current light heavyweight champion.
“Sure, I could go up to 205 and I could take Jon Jones’ belt the same as I could take his candy on Halloween. A little punk kid, I’d snatch it away all I want,” Sonnen said.” “But there’s something to be said in sportsmanship for earning your shot. And on the 29th of December, I’m going to go through Forrest to do it.”
After hearing what Sonnen said about him, Jones responded today on Twitter.
@sonnench the things you say about me hold absolutely no weight, you disrespected Anderson and his country but fought like a child.— Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 15, 2012
@sonnench If you’re going to disrespect me out of nowhere, at least disrespect me to my face like a man.— Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 15, 2012
@sonnench and you call me a punk, I’m more man than you’ll ever be.#Coward#Cheater— Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 15, 2012
After Jones sent those tweets out, Sonnen responded on his Twitter page.

After Sonnen wrote those tweets, Jones fired back by telling him to earn a title shot instead of talking his way into one.
@sonnench lol dude, you’re not worth my time.. Earn a title shot instead of trying to talk your way into one and I’ll be glad to hurt you— Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 15, 2012
Is Sonnen getting in the head of Jones?
Jones told his followers that he knows what he is doing and he is not following into Chael’s game. The UFC would probably love to promote a fight between these two fighters, but Jones has Dan Henderson in front of him. If he defeats Henderson in two weeks, his next title shot will be against Lyoto Machida.
Sonnen has shown he can talk his way into a title shot in the past, but don’t expect Jones to just hand him a title shot without proving anything in the UFC light heavyweight division.
