Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on this week’s episode of “UFC Ultimate Insider” on FUEL TV and she talked about her fast rise in women’s MMA.
She will be defending her Strikeforce title next Saturday night in San Diego against Sarah Kaufman, who is a striker and the champion broke down the fight.
“She has obviously done very good against grapplers, because Miesha’s (Tate) last lost was against her,” Rousey said. “She throws very good straight punches and I’m probably expecting her to keep me at a distance the whole time.”
She also addressed a potential super fight bout with former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Santos. Cyborg is currently under suspension by the California State Athletic Commission and can not re-apply for a license until the middle of December.
Rousey admitted that she had been thinking about a potential matchup with Cyborg since she started mixed martial arts. “I want to have it happen at the right time and the most favorable circumstance for myself,” Rousey said.
Her main concern at this time is her fight next weekend against Kaufman, but the champion does realize what a potential super fight with Cyborg could mean for women’s MMA.
