The first fight on the preliminary card of UFC on FOX 4 was in the flyweight division as John Moraga picked up a victory in his UFC debut against Ulysses Gomez.
Moraga (11-1) was able to control the fight with his strikes and Gomez was unable to get his opponent to the ground.
The end of the fight came at the 3:46 mark of the first round when Moraga landed a short elbow and uppercut that led referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
During his post fight interview with Joe Rogan, Moraga said he wanted to set the tone for the rest of tonight’s fight card. “I’m hear to make the UFC happy.” Moraga said. “I just want to do my best and set the tone for the rest of the night.”
This was his second professional win by knockout and he has now won five straight fights. During his recent winning streak, four of the wins are by stoppage and his only professional lost was against UFC flyweight and Ultimate Fighter winner John Dodson.
Gomez (9-3) was also making his UFC debut today and is a former champion in the Tachi Palace Fights promotion. This is his first lost that he has been stopped and entered the fight on a two fight winning streak.
