UFC fans have been asking for a super fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre over the past couple of years.
The potential fight appears close to happening, according to UFC President Dana White. During a special edition of “UFC Tonight” on FUEL TV, White said the bout is close, but St-Pierre needs to get through Carlos Condit first.
“If Georges St-Pierre defeats Condit that could be the next fight,” White said.
Both fighters have recently said that they would like to fight each other and White said the fight would be a catch weight bout. “It will probably do the fight at 180. At one point, it sounded like Anderson wanted to go to 170. He wanted to takes Georges welterweight title. That was what he was talking about one point.”
White feels that a 180 lb catch weight bout makes the most sense for both fighters as St-Pierre told him if he moves up to middleweight, he will not go back down to welterweight.
If this fight were to happen, the UFC would look to have the fight take place at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
