The headliner of the UFC on FOX 5 preliminary card was scheduled to be a heavyweight bout between Lavar Johnson and Brendan Schaub, but Johnson has suffered a pulled groin injury and is out of next week’s card.
With the fight card being one week away, the UFC will not find a replacement for Schaub and the fight card will now only have 12 fights on the card.
UFC President Dana White announced the changed on late Thursday night on Twitter and the headliner for the preliminary card will now be TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa taking on Marcus LeVesseur.
Following the news of Johnson suffering an injury and pulling out of the fight, Schaub went to Twitter to express his frustration for the fight being canceled.
“Frustrated would be an understatement, back to the gym,” Schaub tweeted.
Schaub (15-3) was looking forward to snapping a two fight losing streak against Johnson, with his last two losses coming against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell. He lost both fights by knockout and he was riding a four fight winning streak, before his recent losses.
The timetable for Johnson’s return is not known at this time and the UFC will not likely look to reschedule a bout between the two heavyweights at this time.
