UFC 154 Live Results and Play by Play

UFC 154 takes place tonight from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and TheMMAReport.com will have live results and play by play of tonight’s card.

The preliminary card will begin at 6:35 p.m. ET the UFC Facebook Page with three fights and the preliminary card will continue at 8 p.m. ET on FX with four fights.

Then, the main card on pay-per-view will begin at 10 p.m. ET and be headlined by Georges St-Pierre taking on Carlos Condit in a welterweight title unification bout.

Steven Siler vs. Darren Elkins

Round 1 – The action opened with Siler not wanting to touch gloves with his opponent and the fighters felt each other out for the first minute. They ended up grappling against the cage, with Siler’s back against the cage. Elkins would be able to take the fight to the ground and was in top control. While on his back, Siler looked to work his submission game and Elkins was able to transition to side control. He did look for a guillotine choke, but he let the hold go when he knew he was not going to be able to do anything with it. Siler would be able to get back to his feet for a moment, but Elkins would once again take the fight to the ground. Elkins would be able o lock in a guillotine choke, but Siler would be able to break out of the hold and make it to the bell.

Round 2 – Elkins wasted no time in getting the fight back to the ground as the round started. Elkins went to work on a submission attempt, but Siler would escape a choke attempt. Elkins would be able to transition and get the back of Siler. He would lock in a rear-naked choke, but was able to escape that submission attempt. Elkins would lock in a body triangle while having the back of his opponent and continued to look for a rear-naked choke. Elkins would use strikes to wear down his opponent to set up a choke. He would look for a submission in the final minute of the round, but Siler would once again make it to the bell.

Round 3 – Siler came out in the third round throwing strikes and looking to get a finish. After two minutes of striking, Elkins would be able to take the fight to the ground. Siler would be able to get off his back and the fighters grappled against the cage. Siler would be able to break away from his opponent and get the action back to the center of the cage. Once again, Elkins would go for a takedown and it was successful. While on his back, Siler looked for a submission but the attempt was unsuccessful. He would get the fight back to the feet for a moment, but Elkins once again took the action to the ground. Siler would be able to lock in a submission attempt at the end of the round, but ran out of time.

Ivan Menjivar vs. Azamat Gashimov

Round 1 – The action began with the fighters exchanging strikes in the center of the octagon. Gashimov looked for a takedown and would be able to complete it. Once on the ground, Menjivar began to look for submissions and Gashimov would escape a potential armbar submission. Once again, Menjivar would look for an armbar and this time he would be able to lock in the hold and Gashimov was forced to tap.

Matthew Riddle vs. John Maguire

Round 1 – The fighters opened the fight by feeling each other out and using kicks to create space. Maguire would be able to catch a leg kick of Riddle, but he could not take the fight to the ground. After catching another leg kick, Maguire looked to take the fight to the ground, and the fighters would grapple against the cage. The fighters would separate from each other and continued to strike. The round would end with Riddle stopping a takedown of Maguire.

Round 2 – After striking for the first minute of the round, they grappled against the cage, with Maguire’s back to the fence. The fighters would separate from each other and continued to exchange strikes. After taking several strikes from his opponent, Riddle would catch the leg of Maguire and the action would go to the ground. Riddle would be in top position, but Riddle would stand up and referee Yves Lavigne would stand Maguire up. Maguire would look for a takedown, but Riddle was able to stop the attempt. With 30 seconds left in the round, Maguire was able to attempt a guillotine choke, but Riddle would escape. After escaping the submission, Riddle began to brawl with his opponent before the end of the round.

Round 3 – The fighters exchanged strikes for the opening minute and they grappled for a moment. The would break away from each other and continue to exchange punches and kicks. The fighters would end up grappling for the last minute of the round and Maguire looked for a submission at the end of the round and the fight will go to the judges.

Result: Matt Riddle def. John Maguire via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Antonio Carvalho vs. Rodrigo Damm

Round 1 – The opening minute saw the fighters feeling each other out with neither guy creating much offense. The fighters would exchange leg kicks with Carvalho landing several leg kicks. They would continue to exchange kicks and punches. They would continue to exchange kicks as the round ended.

Round 2 – The fighters would continue to strike with each other for the first two minutes and Damm was able to take the fight to the ground. He would not be able to keep the action there and Carvalho would get back to his feet. They would continue to strike and Carvalho ended the round with a flurry of punches.

Round 3 – Carvalho continued to attack the lead leg of Damm as the fighters exchanged kicks and punches. After a brief stoppage in the action, Damm was able to land a combination that had Carvalho on his heels. Damm pushed the pace in the action and was able to be the aggressor. Carvalho would counter Damm’s pace by throwing leg kicks and the judges will decide the winner.

Sam Stout vs. John Makdessi

Round 1 – Stout opened the fight by taking control of the cage and pushed the pace with punches. Makdessi began to throw his jab to create distance and to set up combinations. Stout would look to take the fight to the ground, but it was stopped by Makdessi. The fighters would stand up the rest of the round and Makdessi continued to land his jab.

Round 2 – As the round began, the fighters continued to exchange strikes with Makdessi continuing to land his jab. Stout would look for a single leg takedown, but Makdessi was able to stop the attempt. Stout looked to come forward with his strikes, but Makdessi would counter punch the strikes of his opponent. In the last 20 seconds in the round, Stout would look for a takedown, but once again Makdessi would stop the attempt.

Round 3 – The fighters would stand in front of each other and strike at the beginning of the round. Makdessi would land a karate kick. He would then catch a kick of Stout, but was unable to take the fight to the ground. Stout continued to come forward, but Makdessi would continue to land counter punches. In the final 30 seconds, Stout look to get a finish, but could not land any significant strikes.

Result: John Makdessi def. Sam Stout via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)

Cyrille Diabate vs. Chad Griggs

Round 1 – Diabate would drop Griggs 20 seconds in the round and the fight would go to the ground, with Diabte getting side control. Griggs would be able to get up for a moment, but Diabate would slam Griggs back to the ground. Griggs would be able to get back to his feet and the fighters would end up grappling. Diabate would take the fight back to the ground and would lock in a rear-naked choke and gets his first UFC win by submission.

Patrick Cote vs. Alessio Sakara

Round 1 – After a feeling out process, Cote begin to land several strikes that appeared to rock Sakara. However, Sakara was able to turn it around and rock Cote with elbows, that would hurt Cote. He would drop Cote and landed hammer fist that would finish the fight.

After the fight was called, the referee and the commission talked about the end of the fight, which Sakara landed multiple illegal strikes and the fight would be ruled a disqualification.

Mark Hominick vs. Pablo Garza

Round 1 – Hominick quickly came out, pushing the action and Garza landed a left hand and a kick. Both fighters were aggressive with their strikes and Hominick landed a combination against the cage. The fighters continued to exchange strikes with Hominick landing the better shots. Garza would end up looking for a takedown, but Hominick would end up on top. While on his back, Garza attempted an arm bar, but Hominick escaped. Garza would get off his back and the action returned to the middle of the cage. Hominick landed a left hook to the body that dropped Garza, but Garza would survived and make it back to his feet. Garza would open up a cut under the left eye of Hominick and Garza was able to land significant strikes before the end of the round.

Round 2 – The fast pace of the first round would continue at the start of the round. Garza would look for a takedown, which was successful. He would have top position and began to land strikes. Garza would continue to land strikes, which he opened up a cut under the right eye of Hominick. Garza started to land elbows near the end of the round and the fight would move to the third round.

Round 3 – At the one minute mark of the round, Garza was able to take the fight to the ground and be in top position. While in top position, Garza worked his strikes, which included throwing elbows. Hominick attempted to work submissions from his back, but he was unable to secure anything. Hominick would be able to get back to his feet for a moment before Garza took the fight to the ground. At the end of the round, Hominick attempted an armbar, but Garza was able to escape and the judges will decide the winner.

Result: Pablo Garza def. Mark Hominick via unanimous decision (29-27, 30-26, 29-28)

Mark Bocek vs. Rafael Dos Anjos

Round 1 – Dos Anjos led the fight off with a strike and Bocek looked to grapple with him against the cage. Dos Anjos would be able to separate from his opponent. After Dos Anjos went for a leg kick, Bocek looked for a takedown and the fighters once again grappled against the cage. While grappling, Dos Anjos landed multiple knees before separating from Bocek. They would exchange strikes before Bocek would look for a takedown. The takedown attempt was unsuccessful and the action moved back to the center of the cage. After Dos Anjos threw a kick, Bocek looked for another takedown. The attempt would be unsuccessful once again and the round would come to an end.

Round 2 – In the opening moments of the round, Bocek landed an illegal groin shot. Dos Anjos would take a minute to recover and the action would continue. Bocek would look for a takedown, which was unsuccessful and Dos Anjos would get a takedown. While on the ground, Dos Anjos looked for a kimura submission, but Bocek would escape. Bocek would be able to get back to his feet, but does have a cut on his nose. Bocek went for another takedown, which was stopped once again and Dos Anjos took the action to the ground, which he would get the back of his opponent. Dos Anjos began to land multiple strikes, but Bocek was able to get back to his feet. Dos Anjos would be able to get the fight back to the ground. Bocek would get back to his feet before the end of the round, but could not get any offense going before the end of the round.

Round 3 – After a minute of striking, the fighters grappled against the cage and Bocek looked for a takedown. While against the cage, Dos Anjos landed strikes and then slammed Bocked to the mat. The action would return to the feet and Dos Anjos continued to control the action. As the fighters grappled against the cage, Bocek looked for a single leg takedown, but was once again unsuccessful. After a lack of action, the fighters were separated with less than a minute to go. The round would end with both fighters throwing strikes and the judges will declare the winner.

Result: Rafael Dos Anjos def. Mark Bocek via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Francis Carmont vs. Tom Lawlor

Round 1 – The fighters would grapple against the cage as the fight started. Carmont’s back was against the cage and Lawlor looked for a single leg takedown. The takedown would not take place and the referee separated the fighters. After the separation, Lawlor looked for a takedown, but Carmont was able to stop the attempt. He looked for a kimura submission, but gave up the hold when he realized he could not do anything with it. They would continue to grapple against the cage and Carmont would push away to create separation. Carmont went for a takedown, but Lawlor was able to lock in a guillotine choke before Carmont could get the takedown. Carmont was able to escape the submission and the round ended.

Round 2 – Carmont would be able to land a knee in the first minute of the round and Lawlor looked to grapple with his opponent. He would drive Carmont towards the cage  and looked for a takedown. Carmont would be able to separate from Lawlor. After exchanging strikes, Lawloe looked for a takedown, but once again Carmont would stop the attempt. They grappled against the cage and Lawlor was able to get his first takedown. Carmont would be able to get back to his feet and Lawlor would get another takedown. While on his back, Carmont looked for a submission. Lawlor would be able to transition and locked in a guillotine choke. Carmont would escape the hold and the round ended.

Round 3 – After Carmont went for a flying knee, Lawlor looked for a single leg takedown against the cage. Lawlor would not be able to get the takedown and the action would move back to the center of the octagon when the referee separated the fighters. After throwing multiple punches, Lawlor looked to grapple against the cage. He looked for a takedown, but could not take the fight to the ground. The fighters would exchange strikes and Carmont was able to get a takedown near the end of the fight.

Result: Francis Carmont def. Tom Lawlor via split decision (29-28, 28-29,29-28)

Martin Kampmann vs. Johny Hendricks

Round 1 – Hendricks didn’t take long to get the victory as he landed a two punch combination to knockout Kampmann. He landed a right hand and then a left that finished the fight in just 46 seconds.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit

Round 1 – St-Pierre came out and took control of the cage and force Condit to be near the fence. Condit used leg kicks to create distance. St-Pierre looked for a takedown and he would take the fight to the ground. While on the ground, St-Pierre began to work his ground strikes and transition from top position to half guard. He would return to top position and landed multiple strikes. While on his back, Condit looked for submissions. Condit would get off his back at the end of the round and Condit had a cut over his right eye.

Round 2 – St-Pierre came out firing to start the round as Condit appeared to be tentative. As the round moved on, Condit began to throw strikes and landed a combination that had St-Pierre backing up. St-Pierre would take down Condit and land in top position. He would continue to land strikes on the ground and Condit’s cut over his right eye opened up. Condit would get back to his feet at the end of the round and Condit is a bloody mess.

Round 3 – Condit was able to land a head kick that dropped St-Pierre and the action moves to the ground with Condit throwing punches. St-Pierre would get back to his feet and he has cuts on his face now. St-Pierre would land a combination against the cage and then secure a takedown. St-Pierre would work his ground strikes, but Condit would get back to his feet. They would grapple against the cage and once again the fight would go to the ground. St-Pierre would be in top position and they would end the round in this position.

Round 4 – Condit was able to land another high kick in the opening moments of the round, but St-Pieree would once again take the fight to the ground. St-Pierre would be in half guard and transition to full guard. Condit would throw strikes from his back and looked for a knee bar. St-Pierre would be able to escape the submission attempt. Condit would get back to his feet and St-Pieere would take the fight to the ground. Condit would be able to transition into top position, but St-Pieere would reverse the position. The round would end and they will head to the fifth round.

Round 5 – With a minute gone in the final round, Condit was able to stop the takedown attempt of St-Pierre. Condit began to land multiple strikes with kicks and punches. St-Pierre landed a combination and then took the fight to the ground. While on the ground, St-Pierre looked to advance to the full mount, but Condit was able to stop it. The fighters would roll around in different position and St-Pierre would end the round in top position.
