The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale took place on Saturday night in Las Vegas with Roy Nelson becoming the first fighter to stop Matt Mitrione.
The two TUF alums traded strikes in the first round and Nelson would end up knocking the mouthpiece out of Mitrione’s mouth. With his mouthpiece out, Mitrione continue to come forward. Nelson would land several shots which took the fight to the ground, where Nelson would end up finishing the fight.
This is the second straight win for Nelson (19-7) and he had now won four of his five UFC fights in the first round by TKO/KO. This is the second straight lost for Mitrione (5-2) after opening his career with five straight wins.
In the co-main event of the evening, Colton Smith was able to dominate Mike Ricci to win “The Ultimate Fighter” by decision. Smith was able to control the fight by using his wrestling and won all three rounds on the judges scorecards. With his win, Smith receives a UFC contract that is worth six figures.
