John Dodson officially entered the UFC at the end of 2011 when he defeated T.J. Dillashaw to win the bantamweight tournament of “The Ultimate Fighter 14.”

Since winning the reality show, he has dropped down to flyweight and won his first two fights in the division.

Following his win over Jussier Formiga, the UFC announced that he would get the first crack at newly crowned UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

This upcoming title fight could be one of the highest pace fights in UFC history and Dodson feels that this fight could be the building blocks for one of the newest divisions in the UFC.

“Me and Mighty Mouse are going to put on a tremendous show and one of the things that are going to be the building blocks for the division,” Dodson said. “They’re putting us there to make sure that we can do the one thing that me and him are going to do. Put on the best show that the world has ever seen.”

The strength that Johnson seems to have over the Greg Jackson fighter is speed. However, he feels that he can counter the speed of Johnson with his power.

“He might be a little bit faster than me, but I can counter that with the power that I possess. With my power I can make sure I can hit you with as many times as you want if you want to get put down before you wanna get put down or I can just hit you one time and put you to sleep.

It’s not common for a fighter to get a crack at a UFC title this quickly in his career, but Dodson is happy for the opportunity and this title shot is a blessing.

“For me getting this title shot on such a short UFC career is kind of a blessing,” Dodson said. “Like, it says that the UFC believes in me, they understand all the hard work I’ve put into all this.”
